Cedarcrest Medical Center Installs New 3T MRI System

HARLOW FALLS, PA — Cedarcrest Medical Center has completed installation of a new 3 Tesla (3T) MRI system in its Diagnostic Imaging department, giving physicians access to sharper, faster imaging for patients throughout the Allegheny Highlands region.

The new scanner, which replaces a unit installed in 2009, produces higher-resolution images in less time than its predecessor, which is expected to shorten exam times for patients, particularly children and those who experience anxiety in enclosed spaces. The system is also capable of advanced neurological, cardiac, and musculoskeletal imaging that previously required referral to hospitals outside the region.

“This machine lets us see things we simply could not see as clearly before, and it lets us see them faster,” said Dr. Harold Ansley, Chief Medical Officer for Cedarcrest Health. “For a patient with a suspected stroke or a complex orthopedic injury, that speed and clarity can change the course of their treatment.”

The $2.8 million investment was funded in part through a gift from the Cedarcrest Health Foundation and a grant from the Kettle County Community Trust. Marcus Feld, Vice President of Facilities and Support Services, noted that the installation required significant renovation to the imaging suite to accommodate the new equipment’s shielding requirements.

“Investments like this one are how we keep specialty care close to home for the people of this region,” said CEO J. Thomas Weller. “Our patients shouldn’t have to drive an hour or more to get world-class imaging.”
