Patient Rights & Responsibilities
Cedarcrest Health is committed to treating every patient with dignity, respect, and compassion, and to ensuring that patients and families understand their rights while receiving care at Cedarcrest Medical Center, Renner Community Hospital, or any Cedarcrest Health facility.
As a patient of Cedarcrest Health, you have the right to:
- Receive considerate, respectful care without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, or source of payment
- Receive information about your diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis in terms you can understand
- Participate in decisions about your care, including the right to refuse treatment to the extent permitted by law
- Have your pain assessed and treated appropriately
- Expect that your medical records will be kept confidential in accordance with HIPAA and applicable law
- Designate a support person and to have that person present, consistent with visiting guidelines and patient safety
- Receive information about the cost of your care and available financial assistance
- Voice concerns or grievances about your care without fear of reprisal
- Formulate advance directives and have hospital staff comply with those directives to the extent permitted by law
- Receive care in a safe environment free from all forms of abuse, neglect, or harassment
As a patient of Cedarcrest Health, we ask that you accept the following responsibilities:
- Provide accurate and complete information about your health history, medications, and current condition
- Ask questions when you do not understand instructions or information provided by your care team
- Follow the treatment plan you have agreed to, or communicate promptly if you are unable to do so
- Treat hospital staff, other patients, and visitors with courtesy and respect
- Provide accurate information for billing and insurance purposes and fulfill your financial obligations
- Follow hospital rules and regulations, including those related to smoking, visiting hours, and safety
If you have a concern about your care that cannot be resolved with your care team, you may contact the Cedarcrest Health Patient Relations office at (814) 555-2266. Patients also have the right to file a complaint with the Pennsylvania Department of Health or The Joint Commission if concerns remain unresolved.
